Within Russia, Altai Republic borders Kemerovo Oblast (to the north), Republic of Khakassia (to the northeast), Tuva Republic (to the east), and Altai Krai (to the west and northwest). It also shares borders with Kazakhstan, China and Mongolia to its south.
